Staging renovations to create an accessible and retirement ready home

The client wanted to make their home accessible and retirement ready through immediate works and a plan for future renovations. Making homes retirement ready is sometimes a challenge. With this property in we turned the challenge into an opportunity through holistic thinking.

We added a first floor extension to the rear of the property that functions as a retreat and private living room with wonderful views towards the Dandenong Ranges. It has an ensuite and is large enough for future conversion into a master bedroom and walk-in-robe. The extension is conveniently connected to the existing master bedroom and the layout is spatially designed for a future lift.

The first floor extension has other benefits beyond an additional room with spatial consideration for wheelchair access. It also provides cover to the ground floor outdoor area and prevents overlooking from the neighbour into the resident’s living room.
